International students must be proficient in speaking, writing, and understanding English instruction in our programs. If the language of instruction for your previous degree was not English, you must demonstrate English proficiency at the academic level by completing a recognized proficiency test such as Duolingo. Great! We’ll ask for your exam score at a later step. You can continue your application.
As an additional requirement for international students, you must demonstrate English proficiency at the academic level by achieving at least the minimum score on a proficiency exam within the last two years. You are exempt from this requirement if your post-secondary transcript states that your language of instruction was English. Click here to learn more.
If you have questions about this requirement, please contact an enrollment specialist. You can continue your application.
Learn about approved evaluators
Your international transcripts must be evaluated for eligibility as part of the admission process. The evaluation is not a guarantee of admission. You may have your transcripts evaluated by an approved evaluator and sent to Capella.
Well done! We’ll ask for your transcript evaluation at a later step. You can continue your application.
Your transcripts must be reviewed by an approved evaluator such as The Evaluation Company (TEC), or any NACES-approved evaluator.

What are these degree levels?
Your College Degree Options
Depending on the program, students working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree may earn a certificate as part of the work they’re already doing. Most programs accept transfer credit potentially saving you time and money.
Undergraduate Certificates
A certificate is a non-degree credential and can give a jump start on demonstrating skills in a new career. Certificates may be completed before, during, or after another degree (depending on the program).
Bachelor’s degree
A bachelor’s degree includes a wider variety of elective courses for a more rounded education. If you are ultimately aiming for a master’s degree or PhD, a bachelor’s degree is the place to start. Some credits completed in a bachelor’s program may also count toward select graduate programs, potentially saving time and money for those advanced degrees.
Graduate Certificates
A graduate-level certificate focuses on a narrow area of learning , typically to establish a high level of training for a specialty within your field. Some certificates may prepare you for industry-specific licensure requirements, and help accelerate your path toward a master’s degree.
Master’s degree
Master’s programs are often aimed toward mastery in a subject toward career roles in leadership, advanced analytics, and teaching .
Doctoral degree (PhD or Professional doctorate)
These are the highest degrees conferred for a field of study, traditionally a PhD is oriented toward research and teaching, and a Professional Doctorate degree more geared toward practical application, but there is a lot of overlap and the overall focus can vary by program.
These courses will not earn you a degree and are not eligible for financial aid.
You may choose one, two, or three courses. Not all courses are offered every quarter. For course descriptions, refer to the course number in the Capella University Catalog.
